Jesus and his family went to Jerusalem every year for a Jewish celebration called the Feast of Tabernacles.  When Jesus was twelve years they went once again. After they started to go back home Joseph and Mary discovered that Jesus was not with them, so they turned around and went back to Jerusalem to find him.
